When we read an article which is interesting and it has some links included for more information what do we do? We click the links so that we can read more about the topic being discussed and gain more knowledge. But what happens most of the time is that the link is either broken which leads to a 404 error message or the link is a spam which leads to some ads page. As a reader most of us get frustrated with this result and the page loses its popularity.

Rid the Fear
Now a days, due to the new rules from Google, many people fear to include links in their web sites. They feel it is better to just create web pages without any links in it. This is a wrong approach towards web designing. It is essential for a web page to have links that lead to subpages of the same site or to different websites. This way the website can be more organized and better presented. But at the same time, it is highly essential for all the links given in the page to be in working condition at all times.

Maintenance Factor
Many a times, it so happens that the website was created years ago with some links provided. Over the years, the site gets updated many times, the sub sites get updates and developers tend to forget to update the links in the page. This results in broken links. Instead, having a maintenance done in the web page at regular intervals ensures that the links are intact and there is no broken in anywhere in the site.

Relevance Matters
In many cases, clicking on a link leads to a page which is totally irrelevant to the topic in discussion. This turns out to be spam and misleads the readers of the page. It is always better to keep only relevant links in the website. Some developers include links to spam pages in order to get a link back to their page in return. This method of increasing page popularity does not work at all and in turn the page loses its popularity among the audience. Instead, links which lead to trustworthy sites will help gaining popularity for the site.

Fewer the Better
You might have noticed that some sites contain more links than the actual content. There is a high possibility that most of these links lead to spam. So even if your page contains too many links which lead to authentic content, the readers may not be confident on viewing those links due to previous experiences. Instead, provide fewer authentic links. This way, the page looks more presentable and readers find it easier to understand the content and navigate between pages.
